About five years ago when I was just beginning to take my first steps in the legal world,
Colleen sent me a text from in the middle of a trial asking me to provide her with case law
that supported her argument and she needed it within the half hour....
I was a barely familiar with westlaw or any other source for that matter...
All my usual people to ask were not available...so in a panic...I ran down to Mark Lipinski's office...
I had never met him but had been told when there is a question you can't answer,
he's the papa grizzly on the block that probably knows...
Out of breath and clearly in over my head...I burst into his office…
Laz (who probably recognized my situation) brought me back to Mark...
I told him my problem, and in typical Mark fashion he dropped what he was doing
and began to walk me through my problem...
He was amazing to me and as I speak to people today I have learned my experience was not that unique....
I have never forgotten the patience he showed me that day,
or the soothing demeanor that brought me back down, and if I ever learn half of what he forgot about the law
I will be in good shape...
Today as so many grieve his loss, I am thankful for the few moments he shared with me,
and forever grateful for not only the legal knowledge he shared, but the life lesson he imparted...
No matter how big he was, he was never too important to take a moment
and teach the panicked kid from down the street...
Thank you for that Mark, keep looking out for all of us...
